The 5-4-3-2-1 Method

How does it work?

Thoughts and fears sometimes swirl around in your head at high speed. If you can’t get your mind off the worry of what’s to come, try to distract yourself.

Focus on your surroundings. It will help anchor your mind in the present and detach you from the fears of things that are far away and beyond your control right now anyway.

Instructions

Name:

  • 5 things you can see
  • 4 things you can touch
  • 3 things you can hear
  • 2 things you can smell
  • 1 thing you can taste

Try the exercise when your mind is buzzing like a beehive of thoughts and you can’t seem to tame them.
